Captive portal e mirroring
Current laws regarding computer security and antiterrorism do not allow access to the Internet without user identification. Wireless users who have not identified themselves will be redirected to the UWiC portal homepage when they attempt to access external sites. The websites of the University of Urbino and sites mirrored within the wireless campus are exceptions and can be visited without going through an identification process.

VPN access to the Internet
University of Urbino students will be able to surf the Internet after identifying themselves using their own University account. Anyone who has access to the Internet as an employee, user or client of one of UWiC’s partners will be able to use UWiC as a wireless access network to that partner and will therefore be able to surf the Internet according to the guidelines established by their service provider. In order to do so, users must first identify themselves with the partner providing the service using a previously created account. Identification makes it possible to set up a virtual private network projecting the user’s computer into the network where they went through the identification process and providing them with the same privileges they would have if they were physically connected to the network.
