Logo
Origins of the Symbol:
The logo for the “”Urbino wireless campus” is an amalgamation of the symbolic representations of the three elements that make up its name:
- the two towers of the facade of the Ducal Palace, known as the “little towers”, representing Urbino;
- the concentric circles that represent the radio waves emitted from the base stations in wireless communication;
- the almond shape that you get with the overlapping of the two circles, which in the main element in the insignia of the University and hence represents the campus.
Origin of the acronym:
The decision to use an acronym consisting of the first letter of “Urbino”, the first two letters of “Wireless” and the first letter of “Campus” stems from the need for readability and the fact that when the three words are centered on three separate lines, the four letters that make up the acronym lie within a rectangle two characters wide and three lines high.
UWiC
Description of the logotype:
The logo consists of two pairs of concentric circles which overlap horizontally in such a way that the distance between the intersection points of the two external circles is equal to the distance between the centers, and the two inner circles are tangent to the opposite external circles. All the circles have a 25° opening at the bottom. These circles can be combined with the name of the project, “URBINO WIRELESS CAMPUS,” with the words on three separate centered lines, dots before and after the two shorter words and the first two characters in every line written in their negative version, i.e. white letters and dots on a black background rather than black letters and dots on a white background.
Sign:
The sign indicating a UWiC access point consists of a square containing drawn and written logos. The sign is found wherever a UWiC hotspot is located.
Authorship:
The logo was conceived and designed by Raffaele Flauto and Alessandro Bogliolo and registered by the University of Urbino “Carlo Bo” on July 7, 2006.
