Coverage The coverage offered by the network should be viewed in terms of both the geographic area over which the access points are deployed and the density of the access points themselves. For UWiC, these two factors are of equal importance. The extension of the network is useful in creating synergy and relationships over a geographic area, whereas access point density is a key element for accessibility.
Expansion plan
The UWiC expansion plan aims, first of all, to expand the coverage area and then to develop a capillary diffusion of hotspots. The decision to adopt this strategy was dictated by the need to make the network sufficiently large from the outset to make communication and information services useful and to allow project partners to try out the service before making further investments.
Expected Coverage by the end of 2006
By the end of 2006 UWiC hotspots should be deployed in all University of Urbino buildings in Urbino, Fano and Pesaro, as well as in every square in Urbino’s historic center, the main squares of most towns in the Pesaro/Urbino Province, not to mention the towns of Mondaino, San Giustino and the Mountain District of the Upper Chiascio.
