Technology
The network consists of three elements: the dorsal, created using Hiperlan technology, hotspots, which allow access using wireless network devices found in most laptop and handheld computers and connections among networks, created using various technologies which are transparent to users.
The dorsal
The Hiperlan dorsal is a redundant network of antennas connected to each other and to the University network and deployed in strategic positions to cover large areas.
Hotspots
Hotspots are the free access points to the network created using WiFi technology (IEEE 802.11). The hotspots are equipped with two antennas: one to connect with the Hiperlan dorsal and another to accept WiFi user connections.
Network connections
The connections between UWiC and partner networks are wireless (point to point radio bridges) or cable (private or dedicated lines). In any case, the boundaries between the networks are transparent to users, who use the same services regardless of their location and can communicate among themselves regardless of the distance separating them.
